Common Ground Method
Each month, a group of curious contemporary dancers gather to move, experiment, and make new discoveries.
Rooted in the five pillars of dance, the Common Ground Method is a new approach to traditional dance classes. We’d love to have you.

My Company: Animus Dance
Animus is a group of dancers with the most open, beautiful spirits I've ever known. I said goodbye to west coast Animus in 2021 when I moved from California to Massachusetts, but auditions for east coast Animus are coming soon.
One of our favorite projects was “Constellations”, a series of dance videos that highlighted each dancer’s story and welcomed the audience in to learn about the process.
Constellations
The stories behind the faces of Animus
In our first year together, we each wrote letters addressing a piece of our identity. We then connected and collaborated over those stories to create a series of videos celebrating each other and the trials and victories that make us who we are.
When I asked the dancers of Animus to share a single letter to the person of their choice about their roots, I knew there would be some letters to parents. Sarah's letter to her mom was filled with so much real and present love that unless you know her story, you'd assume her mother was still with us.
If there is one thing we should be able to count on, it's the protection of our mother. Maternal power is one of the strongest forces on earth. So when it is used as a weapon to break our spirit, the road back to feeling whole is very, very long.
This piece takes my breath away. Even now, being so familiar with the movement and music, I cry every time I watch it. There are some stories and intersections that just make a home in your heart, and there's no getting rid of them.
Inside the connection between Crystal and Nikisha's letters was a clear call to action. Between the words "most hated demographic in America" and "haunting images of my ancestor's feet" was a world waiting to be talked about
The video was created to be a reflection of Ericka and Venessa's presence: pure joy and light. In a celebration of what it means when incredible women raise incredible women, we went with a fun, whimsical approach. I'm sure I'm not the only one who laughs at musical movies where everyone …
What a freakin delight this was to be a part of. From start to finish, this trio was an adventure. When we'd run this in rehearsal, most of us would start crying. When we filmed it, all sorts of goofy things went wrong.
Now you know...You know why Sarah has a tattoo that says "I love you mucho" on her arm. You know why Ericka's presence has a strangely calming effect. You know why Kayla is simultaneously very tough and very sensitive…
